Dr. Ian Behr is a general surgeon specializing in endocrine surgery. He is experienced in performing appropriate surgical and non-surgical procedures for disorders of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands.

As a fellowship trained endocrine surgeon, Dr. Behr treats all aspects of endocrine disease which require an operation. He performs all standard open surgeries as well as minimally invasive approaches. Additionally, he is trained in non-surgical treatments such as radio-frequency ablation and performs ultrasound exams and ultrasound guided biopsies.

Ian James Behr was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Rockford, Illinois by his parents Jeff and Diana Behr, along with his two sisters Danielle and Alyse. Growing up he was an avid tennis player and went on to the collegiate level playing tennis at Kalamazoo College. His decision to pursue a medical career was largely influenced by his father, Dr. Jeffrey Behr, an orthopedic surgeon.

After college Dr. Behr received his master’s degree from Michigan State University in physiology and subsequently went on to receive his medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. Following medical school he was accepted and trained in the general surgical residency program at Michigan State University. It was there that Dr. Behr fell in love with the field of endocrine surgery and head and neck operations.

Dr. Behr spent several months training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer hospital in New York City in their head and neck surgery department. Dr. Behr subsequently applied and was accepted into the prestigious head and neck endocrine program at Harvard university training under renowned surgeon Dr. Greg Randolph.

When not working Dr. Behr loves spending time with his amazing daughter, Elaina Behr. He still enjoys playing tennis, but now plays mostly golf. He also enjoys all outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, or reading a book by the water. Most importantly when outside of work is his family.
